Minor Hurling League Roinn B
Fenians 2-12, Galmoy/Windgap 1-6
The Fenians minors were much too smart for the Galmoy/Windgap combination in Johnstown on Tuesday July 10th 2012 in this Roinn B League clash..This game was switched to Johnstown during the day as the Galmoy pitch was waterlogged. The home side were the better side all through and the movement of their forwards had the visitors defence stretched all through. The concession of a number of needless frees also gave Mark Webster the chance to slot over some handy scores. Indeed the winning margin could have been greater if Fenians had converted all of the chances created.
In senior player, Willie Brennan at midfield they had an ace. He practically ran the game from the centre and Galmoy/Windgap had no player capable of curbing his influence. Michael Drennan and Cormac Ryan also did very well in defence. Jason Stanley, Frank Phelan and the Walsh brothers Niall and Padraig did their best for Galmoy/Windgap but lacked support from their colleagues.
After an early brace of points from Mark Webster, the Fenians secured their first goal of the evening in the 12th minute when full forward John Muldowney rounded his man and slotted past Kevin Duggan. They had a second major score in the 26th minute when Lorcan O’Loughlin whipped a Willie Brennan free to the net to leave them ahead 2-4 to 0-3 at the interval, the three points for the visitors all coming from placed balls.
The Fenians began the new half impressively with points from Shane Curran and a classy effort from way out by Willie Brennan. They then missed the target with a number of efforts before Mark Webster raised three white flags in succession. Fenians goalkeeper Killian Walsh brought off a great save from Padraig Walsh who tried his best up front. Galmoy/Windgap were thrown a lifeline when Daniel Cashin careered through for a cracking goal and were then denied a penalty when Padraig Walsh was unceremoniously grounded in the small square.
The better team on the evening won however.
