Emeralds Win J J Kavanagh & Sons U21B Co Title

Monday, 22 December 2014 at 11AM

The opening quarter in this game proved crucial as Emeralds raced into a 1-6 to 0-0 lead. After 20 mins the lead was out to 2-6 to 0-1 and the writing was on the wall for the Dunnamaggin side. However they steadied the ship somewhat coming up to half-time and faced into the second half 7 points in arrears 2-7 to 1-3. Halfway through the second half the lead was 9 points but a strong finish from the south champions saw them narrow the gap to 4 with 5 minutes to go. However Emeralds held out for a deserved win 2-13 to 2-9. Click HERE for match photos from Willie Dempsey.

Meanwhile in the South Thomastown were crowned u21 A champions following a terrific game with Glenmore on a final scoreline of 0-19 to 2-8. They now meet the winners of the North Final between Dicksboro and Bennettsbridge. The North Final will be played on weekend 3/4 January with the County Final on the following weekend. Mullinavat and Bennettsbridge Win Under 21 Titles

Monday, 09 December 2013 at 11AM

The Under 21 Grade continued to provide excellent end of season fare at Nowlan Park on Sunday when Mullinavat and Bennettsbridge landed the J J Kavanagh & Sons Under 21 A and B titles respectively. In the opening game Bennettsbridge eventually saw off a strong second half challenge from Dunnamaggin to capture the B County Title which is sure to make up for disappointments at other grades earlier.

The A Final was a superb game with the result in doubt right up to the final minute. In fact a draw looked the likely outcome as O'Loughlin Gaels sought an equalising point as time ran out. But a goal from Darren Watters in injury time tipped the tie in favour of Mullinavat and their first Under 21 Roinn A title. For images of the day, courtesy Willie Dempsey, click HERE
