Did you ever dream of playing in Nowlan Park?

Did you ever dream of playing in Nowlan Park? In late June or early July Kilkenny will host its first Camán Abú tournament in Nowlan Park a new iniative developed by the GAA. Camán Abú and Peil Abú are the names of the Social and Recreational Hurling and Football games which were launched at last year’s GAA Congress in Mullingar. They were devised by the National Research Committee on foot of extensive trials which took place in Portumna (Hurling), and Sligo (Football) and at the Waterford IT Sports Campus (Hurling and Football). There has been a very positive response from participants who have derived a great sense of achievement, fun and enjoyment from their involvement. Camán Abú is effectively a non-contact ground Hurling game which is played with a modified hurling sliotar. The first tournament of it’s kind for county Kilkenny will be held in Nowlan Park. It will consist of: 1. A panel of ten with a minuim of three women involved. 2. Seven a side. 3. Rules and entry forms will be sent out to teams in advance. 4. All participants must be over 16 years of age. 5. Hurls and sliothars will be supplied on the night. It is hoped to send some of the participants to the International Camán Abú taking place in Thurles on the 14th July. Places are strictly limited and are served on a first come basis.
